Last Friday, the 3rd grade class at Lily's school held their "Wax Museum" event. The students have been preparing for this event since January, so it was the culmination of much hard work. The students were required to choose a historical figure (living or dead) and read a biography about this figure. The next step was to write a book report (her first one! and she typed it!) and a speech to memorize for the wax museum. Last, they were to memorize the speech and find a costume to portray their character (thank you, aunts Sarah & Carissa for helping out in this department!). Lily chose Eleanor Roosevelt.
This was such a huge project for 8-9 year olds and I'm surprised how well they all performed! The teachers were very serious about the "wax" nature of this project. They were required to wear a sticker on their hand as a "button" to push and then the kids were to rise from their "resting" position slowly, find a focal point straight in front, say their speech, then slowly sit down to "resting" position again. It was so fun to watch all of these kids work so hard and do such a fabulous job! I'm not even kidding, some of them brought tears to my eyes. (I know, I'm a sap!) You could just see the nervousness mixed with pride as they stood to say their speech. I couldn't help myself, I had to tell each kid just how great they did and how proud of themselves they should be. And Lily....she was just a star! We are always so proud her and today was no exception! She rehearsed, rehearsed, and rehearsed some more (in fact, Jackson had some of her speech memorized too!)! Job well done, Lily!

I took a couple of snapshots of the room. It was loaded with kids in chairs "resting" and those who were saying their speeches. |
