1st grade musical performance

Tuesday night was Lily's 1st grade musical performance.  As you can see from her attire, it was a Western theme. All of the kids did a great job singing a combination of cowboy songs and lullabies. Lily even had a brief solo part in one of the songs!
So fun to see how she shines on stage :)
Getting ready to start...

So proud!

Lily's first trip to the shooting range

Last Saturday, Daddy planned a little gun training session for Lily. She has been excited to learn how to shoot, so he jumped right in with a little pretend target practice at home. His choice of props was not exactly ideal, but hey, you work with what you've got right? Doesn't everyone practice shooting in their P.J.'s with a toddler shopping cart? :)

While Jackson was napping, the father-daughter duo headed off to the shooting range. These pictures Daddy took just amaze me. I still have quite a bit of fear around guns, but it's obvious that Lily is learning a healthy respect for them.
Daddy said it took her a while to actually pull the trigger, but once she got the hang of it, she went full force. And she was a great shot!

This was the best picture I could get of her shooting target.  She did great!

Jackson, soccer player

Today was Jackson's first soccer class. Since he could speak, he has been obsessed with soccer. Of all the sports, this is the one he has talked about the most. He loves kicking the ball and running after it. We have been told he has good coordination for his age, so we decided it was time to get him started!

Near our house, there is an indoor league called "Dinomites" which is more of a class format teaching a variety of soccer and teamwork skills appropriate to his age group. It is only once a week, and no games. We thought this would be a great way for Jackson to learn some skills without having to "herd" down the field to compete for the ball.

He had a great first class!  The session had already started when we enrolled him, so he had to jump right in and catch up with the routine.  He did a great job listening to the coach and following instruction!  There was only one mishap in which he collided heads sideways with another boy as they were racing to jump over the same noodle during a game.  It was so quick that their collision looked like a firework exploding!  After colliding they both flew to opposite sides!  It was a sad five minutes...and then both boys were back to running again!  Kids are so resilient.

He is already asking about his next class...which means I get to hear for the next six days, "can I go to soccer today?" :)

the class started off with "catch the tail"
getting ready....
and he's off!
practicing toe taps
head on ball!  haha
waiting for the next instruction. I love how the coach had them all kneel.

Here's a short video of one of his drills.  He was hilarious to watch!  So serious and fired up!

Bolinger Christmas!

I just realized....I never documented our Bolinger Christmas!
This year, illness hit us from all ends of the family so we didn't celebrate until January 18th!  Poor Grandma kept her Christmas decorations up for almost a month after Christmas just for all of us to enjoy together. Despite it being mid-January, we all got back into the Christmas spirit and enjoyed another evening of great food, laughter, and holiday fun.

Grandpa made a fabulous round top for the dining table this year, so we all could see each other!  It was lovely
I should have taken a panoramic picture!  Couldn't fit the whole table in one shot :)

Grandma & Grandpa
Uncle Chris & Aunt Carissa (& Powell too)

this one had NO problem opening his own gifts this year! :)
Lily was super excited about every gift she received!

Every year, Grandma gets a special Lenox ornament for Lily & Jackson.  We love decorating the tree with them!
