The Shatto Dairy Farm has been a trip I have been wanting to take the kids on for quite some time. I remember very vividly my trip to the Tillamook factory in Oregon and how much I loved watching the whole process. So, when I found out a couple of weeks ago that last Saturday was "Family Day" at the farm, I jumped at the chance. Nevermind that it would be very crowded and in the 90's that day...we were going! :)
Shatto is a small, local, family owned and operated dairy farm located in Osborn, MO (approximately 1 1/2 hours north of our house). They sell their dairy products in all of the local grocery stores and they are delicious. One of their specialties is flavored milk- "Root Beer" and "Orange Dream" (which I tried for the first time) are a couple of our favorites.

We toured the "milking" area where we were able to put our hand on the extractors to test the suction. |
The kids were able to pet one of the mama cows |
And we were allowed to milk her too! Both Lily and Jackson jumped right in there and tried it! I shouldn't be surprised at their initiative, but somehow I always am. So happy I don't have timid children :) |

the tasting area- our favorite, with a variety of different flavored milk |
both kids were not that adventurous as they chose the all-time favorite- chocolate milk! |

they had bounce houses set up for the kids to add to the "Family Day" fun |
here we are, hot and sweaty, on a hayride back to the parking area- ready to head home |
We sure had a great time visiting the farm and hope to return on a cooler, less-crowded day, and with Daddy next time. I had to laugh as we were half-way home and I could still smell cow manure in my car! So, we ended the afternoon with removing our shoes, putting them in a plastic bag, and taking a trip to the car wash! Visiting the country is great, but this mama is definitely a city girl! :)
