Clinton Lake, KS camping trip

The weekend immediately following our Memorial Day lake trip, we packed up again and headed west to Clinton Lake, KS.  We were anxious to get a camping trip in late spring/early summer with the cousins, and this was close to home (only an hour away).  I would love to say this trip went without a hitch, but I would be lying.  Besides the great company, this trip did not go exactly as planned.  Aunt Carissa and I planned this one ourselves, so when we specifically reserved campsites across from the shower house/bathrooms and showed up to this....

saying we were disappointed would be a HUGE understatement.  This mom does not do port-a-potties, so we literally had to drive to the opposite side of the campground every time a bathroom was needed.  Not fun.

Also, Jackson was up the majority of our first night with an ear infection that came on that afternoon.  Thankfully, we were minutes from town with a Walgreens Take Care Clinic that was able to diagnose and prescribe meds so we could continue our trip.

Wow.  Aren't I the Debbie Downer?! ;)  Can you tell I am still suffering from post-tramautic stress from those memories? Haha!
Those were the two major bummers of the trip, but now that I have gotten those off my chest, I'll share some highlights!

The lake itself was beautiful!  Blue and fairly clear!  The water was warm as well, so the kids enjoyed getting in to swim.

We decided to check out the "swim beach" but it was not well kept...muddy, bird droppings everywhere, icky...so we did not return ;)

The kids found tons of little green caterpillars back at the campsite.  Needless to say, Jackson loved carrying them around :)
The Schowengerdt's arrived Saturday afternoon to complete our camping gang.  The kids had a fun water fight with the hose at camp.
Since we decided the swim beach was not clean enough, we hiked down to the lake by our campsite instead.  It was quite rocky but the kids didn't care and seemed to have a good time!

Daddy even got a little fishing in!
Saturday night, we enjoyed a fabulous Mexican feast courtesy of Scott & Hilary and then S'mores, of course!  Aunt Carissa brought out the glow sticks after dark and the kids had a blast.

Despite a rough start to the trip, it ended well and we enjoyed spending time together with family!  And seeing these precious faces sleeping in the camper makes it all worth it!
