Shatto Dairy Farm

The Shatto Dairy Farm has been a trip I have been wanting to take the kids on for quite some time.  I remember very vividly my trip to the Tillamook factory in Oregon and how much I loved watching the whole process. So, when I found out a couple of weeks ago that last Saturday was "Family Day" at the farm, I jumped at the chance.  Nevermind that it would be very crowded and in the 90's that day...we were going! :)

Shatto is a small, local, family owned and operated dairy farm located in Osborn, MO (approximately 1 1/2 hours north of our house).  They sell their dairy products in all of the local grocery stores and they are delicious. One of their specialties is flavored milk- "Root Beer" and "Orange Dream" (which I tried for the first time) are a couple of our favorites.

We toured the "milking" area where we were able to put our hand on the extractors to test the suction.

The kids were able to pet one of the mama cows

And we were allowed to milk her too!  Both Lily and Jackson jumped right in there and tried it!  I shouldn't be surprised at their initiative, but somehow I always am.  So happy I don't have timid children :)

a view of the bottling room
the tasting area- our favorite, with a variety of different flavored milk
both kids were not that adventurous as they chose the all-time favorite- chocolate milk!

outside the main entrance to the farm
they had bounce houses set up for the kids to add to the "Family Day" fun

here we are, hot and sweaty, on a hayride back to the parking area- ready to head home
We sure had a great time visiting the farm and hope to return on a cooler, less-crowded day, and with Daddy next time.  I had to laugh as we were half-way home and I could still smell cow manure in my car!  So, we ended the afternoon with removing our shoes, putting them in a plastic bag, and taking a trip to the car wash! Visiting the country is great, but this mama is definitely a city girl! :)

Jackson's 1st trip to the Dentist!

Last week Jackson had his first visit to the dentist!  This was also a trial run of a new pediatric dental office so it was a new experience for both kids.
Per usual, I was a little hesitant and anxious about taking my wild man into an office that would require him to sit still and behave for a somewhat extended period of time.  And, as seems to be the case lately, he completely surprised me.  He was so well-behaved, polite (although this is not unusual), and calm!  I was so proud of his good behavior and ability to cooperate with the hygienist and dentist without any issues!
And, icing on the cake was NO cavities for Jackson or Lily!  Yay!

He literally kept his mouth like this the entire time!  He took "open wide" very seriously.  I had to stop myself from laughing.

Dr. Korsten...aka "Superman".  He was wearing a Superman tie (logo was  on bottom and covered by Jackson's shoulder), so Jackson kept asking where "Superman" went?  Dentist got a kick out of that one!
