I'm Stuck!

Up to this point, Lily has not been all that adventurous. She thinks that jumping off the step on her step-stool is a BIG deal! No jumping off the couches, climbing on furniture...no, not Lily. I have actually been secretly relieved that she is this way as I am already a bit paranoid as it is. However, I think this is starting to change.....

Last night, Lily was drinking out of a straw cup with a removable lid. She decided to take the straw out and stick her finger in the hole where the straw goes...just to see what happens.

Well, this is what happened......

She came crying to Daddy who then proceeded to take her to the sink to put some soap on it to loosen her finger. No such luck. So, his response? "Well Lily...we got to cut it off!" So as he went to the garage to get the pliers, I got the camera. How can I miss a monumental moment like her first stuck finger?! :-) Nevermind that she was in total fear and crying her eyes out!

As her finger was turning purple, Justin began to cut the plastic lid...like any carpenter would...very precisely! I quietly hoped he would HURRY UP! But, all is well now and here is a picture to prove she still has 5 fingers on her right hand. Oh...and she was thrilled that I was taking pictures of this event, by the way :-)

She's got that Martin gene!

My mom sent this to me a while back and I forgot to post it on my blog!
Here is a collage of some pictures of my mom and Lily at 2 years of age. You tell me...who's who? (well...other than the obvious black/white vs. color, of course)

I have heard from many people that Lily looks a lot like my mom...here's the proof!

Friends

Recently, Lily has been talking more about her "friends". She has started asking about her friends when they are not around and identifying specifically who they are.

She has a best friend, Izzy, at daycare that she talks about quite often. Today on the way to daycare, she was telling me she was going to show Izzy her new Dora t-shirt! I have heard stories from her teachers of the two of them hanging out quite a bit and talking about their mommies. Of course, I love that! One story was from her morning teacher who said she and Izzy like to say things like..."My mommy would be so proud of me if......" or "My mommy is happy when I do...."- as if they are competing as to who can impress their mommy more!? I wish sometimes I could be a fly on the wall to hear what she says when I am not around....don't we all...

Lily also loves to see her friends Hannah and Madison at church on Sundays. When we are getting ready for church she will ask about them with excitement. They like to hold hands while walking to the car after church. It's very sweet to watch.

This past weekend, Lily was in heaven as there were about 7 or so kids to play with at Justin's company party at the lake. Holly (in pics. above) and Wyatt were there- two more of her favorite friends, as well as some others that she sees only once a year at the party. It sure doesn't take her long to warm up to any of them though! I know she gets that trait from her daddy. I only wish I had half of the confidence she does in making new friends. One of my favorite quotes of the weekend from Lily was "These are my girls!" introducing her friends of the weekend to others.

Lily has become quite the social butterfly. We hope she continues to make lots of new friends and develop some really good friendships along the way.

Visit from Grandma and Grandpa L.

Last week Grandma and Grandpa L. came to visit for a few days. We had a good time shopping on Thursday and going to the lake for the 4th of July weekend. Lily loved having time with both grandparents at the lake and as always, loved being the center of attention :)
