Summer Reading Program at the library

Our local library in Independence is fabulous! They just remodeled it this year, so people from all around the KC area came to explore the new amenities.
They provided a Summer Reading Program beginning with babies all the way up through teenagers. I was glad to have the opportunity to enroll both kids in this program. Each 24 books the kids read (or listened to), earned them a surprise (a new book of their own).

here they are with their new book and certificates

There were also many special events this summer held at the library that we participated in as well. Enjoy some pictures of the events we participated in:

watching Arthur- her favorite thing to do after storytime
Mr. Jackson cruising in the kids area waiting for Lily
the "preschoolers" working on their craft after storytime
(each craft matches the theme of the books read during storytime)
a snake...yikes!!

holding still for the face painter...

Craft day- made a butterfly ring and a bookmark

a visit from the Independence Fire Department

Meterologist Katie Horner and the company Mad Scientist teaching the kids about tornadoes and thunderstorms
